Uganda primarily grows Robusta (about 80%) and Arabica coffee, with specific varieties including Nganda, Erecta, Typica, SL14, SL28, Kent, and the Bugishu/Bugisu Arabica. Robusta thrives in lowlands, while Arabica grows in high-altitude regions like Mount Elgon and the Rwenzoris. New, higher-yielding, and disease-resistant clonal varieties are also being developed and distributed.
Some of the Robusta grown in Uganda is from indigenous plants, particularly in the Lake Victoria region.

High-yielding and disease-resistant clonal varieties, such as the NARO KR series (e.g., KR1, KR7, KR8, KR9, KR10), are being developed and distributed.
